Playlist for September 6, 2010

My brother-in-law Brad seems to have developed a mysterious migratory pattern that finds him in Saskatoon on a bi-weekly basis, so he co-hosted the show once again.  Janelle was elsewhere in Saskatchewan getting rained on in a tent, so we preferred being in the comfort of the studio (once Franny arrived to turn on the heat, it was even more cosy).  This rainy, grey Labour Day brought out the mellow in us, as evidenced in our playlist.  We highly recommend listening to these songs accompanied by some warm tea and a fire place.

Playlist August 23 2010

It was nice to actually do a show together after a summer of solo efforts, and Brad shared co-hosting duties once again.  The sadness of summer's departure is softened by the promise of an abundance of fall concerts.  Today's show included just a sampling of some of the acts coming to town in the next few months.  CFCR has brought in a lot of great bands for our annual FM-Phasis fundraiser, so be sure to check out some of these shows at Amigos - Blitzen Trapper, Cuff the Duke, Yukon Blonde, and The Wooden Sky just to name a few.  There is no shortage of good music to make the return to school/university/shorter days/cooler weather more enjoyable!

I love summer shows, when waking up at 5 am and hopping on your bike doesn't seem like such a chore.  My bro-in-law, Brad, willingly joined in this morning routine, and provided excellent company and music choices in Janelle's absence.  This might be our folkiest show to date, as both Brad and I were filled with ideas from this past weekend's Regina Folk Festival.  We also fit in some favourites from past folk festivals.  Brad suggested that an outdoor rooftop studio would be quite suited to days like this; CFCR, is this in the budget?

Summer!  There's nothing quite like a 5:30 AM bike ride to the station to wake you up!  Once again it was a solo show as Camille was out of town on a 100km bike tour (or something crazy like that....kind of puts my commuter rides to shame).  Today's playlist is a list of new and old.  It also included a sweet 3-song set dedicated to all \you fabulous people who garden.  I am jealous of your talents and patience.  Keep up the good work and thanks for listening!

Back to the gool ol' solo show - when I can get away with playing bluegrass and Swedish bands because Janelle's not in town.  Summer is the time for festivals, and Saskatoon just wrapped up a great 10 day Jazz Festival.  Last night's bluegrass performance by Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder was a festival highlight for me, and inspired me to dust off the banjo that's been sitting in my house and give it a go.  Be sure to hit up more of the local(ish) music festivals this summer, including the Regina Folk Festival in early August and the Ness Creek Folk and Bluegrass Festivals.
